July 2024 has been a whirlwind of adventure for Angelia, as she embarked on a unique journey to Semporna to visit the famous Seaventures Dive Rig and took part in a TV documentary that will shine a spotlight on the enchanting world of mermaids in the ocean. Back in Kota Kinabalu, Angelia has been hard at work with the Malaysia Mermaid Club, fine-tuning her students’ underwater posing skills. This month, she combined her passion for mermaiding with a new challenge—showing the world how magical the life of a mermaid truly is!
Mermaiding at Seaventures Dive Rig, Semporna
One of the most exciting stops on Angelia’s July adventures was the Seaventures Dive Rig in Semporna. Known as one of the world’s only converted oil rigs turned dive resort, Seaventures offers the perfect backdrop for diving and underwater exploration. Angelia’s visit wasn’t just for fun, though—it was part of an upcoming TV documentary that highlights mermaids and their role in promoting ocean conservation.
As the only PADI Mermaid Trainer in Sabah, Angelia was the perfect choice for the documentary, which focuses on the connection between mermaids, the ocean, and marine conservation. “Being part of this documentary is a dream come true,” Angelia shared. “It’s such an incredible opportunity to show people how mermaiding can inspire a deeper love and respect for the ocean.”
While at Seaventures, Angelia was filmed swimming gracefully in her vibrant mermaid tail, exploring the crystal-clear waters that surround the rig. The team captured her as she interacted with the marine life and demonstrated the fluid, elegant movements that make mermaiding so captivating. The underwater setting was stunning, with coral reefs and schools of fish providing a breathtaking backdrop for Angelia’s underwater performance.
The documentary aims to raise awareness about ocean conservation by highlighting the unique connection between mermaids and the sea. Angelia hopes that by showcasing the beauty and grace of mermaiding, more people will be inspired to take action to protect our oceans.
“The ocean is our home as mermaids, and we need to take care of it,” Angelia said. “Through this documentary, I hope to inspire others to be more conscious of their impact on marine life and become advocates for conservation.”
Practicing Underwater Posing with the Malaysia Mermaid Club
Back in Kota Kinabalu, Angelia’s July was just as busy as she spent time practicing with the Malaysia Mermaid Club. As part of her PADI Mermaid Instructor Course, Angelia has been helping her students refine their underwater posing skills, which is an essential aspect of mermaiding. Whether they’re preparing for a photoshoot or simply looking to perfect their mermaid form, posing underwater requires practice and patience.
“Underwater posing is one of the most important skills for a mermaid,” Angelia explains. “It’s not just about looking beautiful; it’s about learning to move with grace and control in the water. The way you pose can completely transform the way you’re perceived as a mermaid.”
Angelia worked closely with her students, providing guidance on breath control, fluid movements, and how to use their mermaid tails to enhance their poses.
“Posing underwater is an art, and it’s something that takes time to master,” Angelia says. “I love working with my students to help them build confidence and grace in their movements. It’s amazing to see their progress!”
