The PADI Mermaid Instructor course is conducted over four days which consists of knowledge development classroom sessions, teaching presentations, water skills stamina tests, and rescue training. The training in the PADI Mermaid Instructor program develops the skills and training learnt in the PADI Mermaid and PADI Advanced Mermaid courses and develops you into teaching these skills and becoming a PADI Professional.

During the PADI Mermaid Instructor course in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia you will become part of the Malaysia Mermaid Professional Club and learn essential skills to teach mermaiding, from breath-hold techniques to safety management, and inspire others to join this magical underwater journey. As a certified Mermaid Instructor in Malaysia, you’ll be fully equipped to lead mermaid courses, whether in pools or open water.

What to Expect

The PADI Mermaid Instructor course consists of four parts:

  • Through intensive but fun classroom training you will be introduced to the PADI mermaid system and learn how to teach prescriptively via the PADI online system which covers PADI Mermaid eLearning. You will also student the student PADI Mermaid eLearning as well as the PADI Mermaid Instructor Guide.
  • In a swimming pool you will review all mermaid skills and then learn how to demonstrate each mermaid skill as a professional Mermaid Instructor. You will also learn lots of fun ways and helpful hints to tips to conduct you’re in water mermaid training.
  • Out in open water in the ocean you will learn how to teach the PADI Advanced Mermaid course demonstrating rescue and emergency procedures making the experience safe and fun.
  • You will assist your PADI Mermaid Instructor with PADI Discover Mermaid, Basic Mermaid, Mermaid and Advanced Mermaid Courses to get a hands-on grip on how the swimming pool sessions and open water courses are conducted.

10.90am – Assist on an Advanced Mermaid Open Water Sessions

1.30pm – Mermaid Practice in Open Water

3.30pm – Clean up and shower

4pm – Certification and Closing Ceremony for the PADI Mermaid Instructor Program

Requirements to Take Part

To enroll in a PADI Mermaid instructor course, you must be at least 18 years old. You must be certified as a PADI Advanced Mermaid and have completed EFR Primary and Secondary Care training within the last 24 months. You also need to complete the waterskills tests of floating for 10 minutes, 800 metres face down mask, snorkel fin swim, a 400 metre nonstop with no swimming aids and then a rescue tow for 100metres. You must also be in good physical health.
